Local powerhouse producers, Wax Beach, have just dropped ‘Slow Motion’ as their brand-new single, following the previous hit ‘One More Night’. ‘Slow Motion’ is available now across all digital platforms to download and stream.
Starting to make waves on the scene following the national #1 hit single ‘One More Night’ with Josh Wantie, Wax Beach have teamed up with vocalist Jennifer Nel and rapper Ndrzla for their next massive Summer single, ‘Slow Motion’.
Jamie, one half of duo Wax Beach, is excited for this release and commented on how the collaboration came about: “We met both Jennifer and Ndrzla through mutual friends. After attending one of Jennifer’s gigs, we knew we wanted to work with her and started discussing a collaboration. Musically, this is Jennifer’s first original work and we are proud to have her on the track.” He continued, saying “I’d been working on this instrumental for a while before Jennifer was on it, we initially had another track in mind for her, but eventually decided that this was a better choice for her vocals. The verses came together with Tiaan and Jennifer collaborating on the lyrics. We’ve also been wanting to work with hip hop artists for a while now and in a recording session for a different track, I played Ndrzla this demo and he free styled a rap on the spot and that became the final version. I think it’s the difference between these two vocalists and the collaboration of different styles with the energetic instrumental, that makes this track exciting.”
The combined effort has resulted in a catchy, smooth and very upbeat single, one that is going to feel very much at home on dance floors across SA.
So, what is ‘Slow Motion’ about? Tiaan from Wax Beach explained, saying: “Lyrically the verses are about the beginning vs the end of a relationship, and how a person’s feelings change from love and excitement, to anger or resentment as time goes on. Ndrzla’s segments reminds us that life goes on and that we need to keep going on, no matter what happens. The title, ‘Slow Motion’ describes this time between the start and end of a relationship; where it feels like you and the other person are in your own little bubble, oblivious to the rest of the world”
Wax Beach is busy solidifying themselves as a strong electronic music production team from Cape Town. The duo, consisting of Jamie Christensen and Tiaan du Toit, dropped their debut collaboration EP ‘Immersion’ featuring artist and vocalist Irinami in November 2017, and kicked 2018 off with their hit collaboration with Josh Wantie.
‘Slow Motion’ proves once again that Wax Beach creates great music, and this is just the beginning of what is going to be an incredible career for them.
