Ben Harper and Soweto Gospel Choir in rare collaboration at Time Square

It’s a match made in heaven at Time Square on 6 June 2019. The internationally acclaimed, Grammy Award winning Ben Harper collaborates with one of South Africa’s musical treasures, the Soweto Gospel Choir for a one-night-only concert at the Sun Arena. The audience will be blown away by this incredibly special collaboration that promises to be one of the most memorable live shows on Time Square’s entertainment calendar this year.

Harper, who grew up on a heavy diet of gospel, folk and blues is delighted to work with the celebrated choir during his South African tour.  Both have decades-spanning histories of moving and inspiring audiences across the world with powerful music and mesmerising showmanship. They each boast three Grammy Awards among their impressive respective awards tallies. June will mark only the second home-soil concert performance of Soweto Gospel Choir since their third Grammy win, making it a must-see opportunity for fans before they leave South African shores again in July.

Soweto Gospel Choir has brought joy to people around the globe for the past 17 years, and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including U2, Stevie Wonder, Robert Plant, Celine Dion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Groban and the late Aretha Franklin. The choir has made special guest appearances at the MTV Africa Music Awards and the AFRIMA (All Africa Awards), performed with Eddie Vedder and Beyonce at the Global Citizen Mandela 100 concert in Johannesburg, and earned the distinction as the only South African music act to ever perform at the Oscars. The choir’s collaboration with U2 added an Emmy to their awards’ collection, and their recording with Peter Gabriel for the Disney Pixar film Wall E earned them an Academy Award nomination.

Soweto Gospel Choir is known for the incredible energy and spirit the members bring to their music, as they fill the stage with their vibrant costumes, incredible vocals and songs that uplift and raise audiences to their feet. The choir’s repertoire will include a mix of African gospel, traditional and international classics, dancing and drumming.

Doors to the Sun Arena will open at 18h00. Tickets are priced from R195 per person at www.howler.co.za/BenHarper
