Great excitement as 12 singers prepare to enter the last stages of the Open Mic Jazz singing competition

The 12 best singers, who made it through the nail-biting quarter finals, are getting ready to ‘wow’ the audience and the judges, in the semi-finals on 14 October 2019 taking place in the Market Hall, GrandWest. The judges will then choose the final six contestants to take part in the finals of the singing competition on 16 October 2019, also taking place in the Market Hall, GrandWest.

“This is such an incredible competition,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest. “The talent is excellent, and it gets very exciting. Some of the competitors sang so beautifully, it was so difficult to choose the best, but we have 12 excellent singers through to the semi-final round,” she said. “The finals will be even more exciting as the field is narrowed down to six singers hoping to be the final winner.”

The Finalists

Jazz lovers are encouraged to come and support these talented singers as they battle it out in the semi-finals and then finals. The Open Mic Jazz singing competition is free to watch.

“There are some great prizes, worth more than R200 000, to be won so the singers are working hard to deliver their best on stage,” says Matthys.

Now in its 11th year, the Open Mic Jazz singing competition is a fantastic platform for up and coming ‘non-professional’ singers to show off their talent to the public.

“The Open Mic Jazz singing competition is one of the year’s highlights at GrandWest,” says Matthys. “If you love jazz, with an added element of excitement, you should come down and watch these contestants perform, it’s a fantastic night out.”
