Have a Night with the Starz at The Boardwalk International Convention Centre

An ensemble of talented performers will take to the stage in a Night with the Starz at the Boardwalk on 24 August 2019. On the bill for the one night only concert at The Boardwalk International Convention Centre are Karin Kortje, Jody Williams, PJ Twins, Eon, Craig Lucas, Keegan and Bevin Samuels.

Karin Kortje, winner of Idols in 2005 adds substance and soul to any concert. After winning Idols, her career skyrocketed and she released a three track mini album through record label Sony BMG which featured her winning single “I’m So Ready” which received frequent airplay, the Christmas carol “Joy To The World” and covered the John Legend hit “Ordinary People.”

In 2006 Karin released her debut album Forever And The Day which ended up exceeding sales reaching Gold Status in South Africa selling just over 20 000 copies. Sing along to these and other songs by the amazing Karin at Night with the Starz.

Joining Karin on stage is the dynamic Jody Williams. This talented Capetonian started playing the piano in high school as a means to explore her passion for music and also sang in the school choir for a few months. At just 14 she joined a private music school under the watchful eye of her mentor and biggest fan, Marius Theron. Her voice training paid off tremendously and in June 2007 she walked away with the coveted title of the winner of South African Idols Season 4.

Jody realized one of her dreams when she performed as the opening act for Celine Dion in 2008 when Celine toured South Africa. With a list of accolades too long to mention, this superstar who has shared the stage with famous artists from across the globe, is not to be missed.

Collaborating with the ladies on stage is Eon Claude Le Roux who impressed viewers with his performances in The Voice. This 28 year-old Bitcoin entrepreneur and musician from the bay was initially forced to sing by his parents when he was a child but eventually fell in love with it. He says he entered The Voice because he has “a gift that needs to be shared with the world,” and that the show has been his biggest opportunity yet. A praise and worship leader, he also plays guitar, bass, piano and drums.

Bevin Samuels, who is accustomed to performing for his local fans, also forms part of Night with the Starz. This dynamic young man discovered his passion for music at a very young age.  Matriculating in 2015, he decided to take a gap year and pursue a career in music and the moment he was the judges’ pick for the Idols Top 10, realized that he had made the correct choice. Despite his many star qualities and votes from all over South Africa, he had to exit the competition on the evening that the Top 5 was revealed, but Bevin has never stopped doing what he does best.  Catch him live on home soil in this music spectacular.

Ready to wow the audience as he always does is Cape Town singer and winner of The Voice 2017, Craig Lucas. Craig has always loved singing but made a promise to his mother that he would finish his degree first. He studied politics, philosophy and economics at UCT before doing his Honours in finance. Initially suffering from terrible performance anxiety, Craig just overcame this in The Voice and confidently walked away as winner of the season.

His golden voice and knack to make every song his own never fail to mesmerize fans. Craig draws inspiration from artists such as Jimmy Nevis and Shekinah and although at the same level as these, always remains humble and admires the work of others.  Fans can look forward to songs from Craig’s two albums, Restless and MORE as he collaborates with his fellow singers in this show.

Keegan Martin is ready for this exciting collaboration. Discovering his love for music at just eight years of age Keegan, who also made the Idols Top 7, will be joining his co-stars on the Boardwalk’s stage. His career started off as a member of both primary and high school choirs, and later being the choir conductor of his high-school in matric, as well as the Noordgesig High School in Soweto the following year.

One of his biggest achievements was being the opening act for the international R&B sensation Tasmia at Carnival City during her visit to South Africa in 2013.  Keegan has also performed as backup singer for the world-famous Marvin Winans and Donnie McKlurkin at “Perfecting Church International” in 2012.

Completing and complimenting the “togetherness” and of course the absolute “star aspect” of this show, are the PJ Twins – another incredible product of The Voice and their coach, LIRA.  Twin brothers, Peter and John grew up in a small township in Cape Town called Bonteheuwel. Though their community is a warm and close-knit one, the twins also revealed that it is badly affected by gangsterism, something they were fortunately able to distance themselves from given their dedication to music. The brothers are deeply invested in uplifting their community and regularly do charitable work such as free concerts and conducting education and anti-drug campaigns.

Unsurprisingly they’ve become local heroes have really used The Voice to make a difference. Their voices compliment one another beautifully and fans can look forward to another perfect performace by the twins alongside their fellow-artists.
