With just one day to go until the 30th edition of South Africa’s longest running festival kicks off in rolling foothills of the Southern Drakensberg mountains. Festival organisers have just announced that Splashy Fen Music Festival has sold out!
8 000 happy campers will come together to enjoy over 100 acts across 5 unique stage areas, in what has been dubbed South Africa’s friendliest festival. While online sales are now closed for the 2019 edition of the iconic festival, day visitors are welcome at Splashy Fen.
Please note that all armbands need to be collected in Underberg at the Underberg Country Club. This is 500m past the SPAR and on your way to Splashy Fen. Please note that YOU CANNOT COLLECT TICKETS ON BEHALF OF OTHER PEOPLE UNLESS YOU ARE COLLECTING U12 AND U6 TICKETS.
All adult and U18 tickets MUST be collected by the person redeeming the ticket. Please note that you need to bring some form of photo ID that indicates your Date of Birth (photocopies or pictures on your phone will work) in order to get your armband issued. Collection at the country club takes place at the following times:
• Wednesday: 09:00 – 19:00
• Thursday: 07:00 – 21:00
• Friday: 07:00 – 21:00
• Saturday: 07:00 – 21:00
Please note that we operate a policy of first come, first served in our general camping areas. We will be enforcing this in 2019, and no reserving of spaces will be allowed.
This is only fair to those who have decided to make the effort to attend Splashy early
Family camping has been expanded in size and it is a paid camping area. This area will have added security, as well as toilet trailer units and will cost R300 per vehicle and R150 per caravan/trailer. If you arrive with a vehicle and a trailer/caravan, the charge will then be R450. This operates on a first come, first served basis and fees are payable at the entrance to family camping
SPLASHY FEN DAY PASS:
A day pass includes an overnight pass to the festival and allows fans to set up camp for one night. They will be required to pay the full price of R900 cash at the festival gate ONLY – for a gate festival pass on arrival and will be issued with a receipt and be required to leave the site by 10h00 the next morning.
On departure, fans will need to present their receipts to the gate control team and will receive a refund based on the pricing for the day that was attended. Day visitors not intending to stay the night will be provided with secure day visitor’s parking space.
The following day rates apply: R300 for Thursday, and R450 for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday events, respectively. Parents purchasing for their kids aged between 8-12 can look to pay R100 per day, and R20 per day for kids U8.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
“We’ve been on site for months now, ensuring that Splashy Fenners get to enjoy the quality that they’ve come to know and love from the festival”, says Stu Berry, Festival Director. “And now, Splashy Week is finally upon us and we’re ready! Not only are we South Africa’s friendliest festival, but we really try to encourage participation and interaction among festival goers too. We are proud to be able to offer a long list of entertainment and activities for fans over the Easter long weekend – and this year will be no different. From yoga to belly dancing, drumming workshops, trail running, fishing, face painting, wild and wacky fashion shows, art and music from all genres, including a silent disco with the best of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s… there really is something for every kind of fan, of every age, race, culture and gender. We are so excited to welcome 8 000 people to our 30th birthday celebration!”
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
At Splashy Fen, we pride ourselves on a festival ethos of fun, laughter and friendliness. But for those few who choose to operate outside of this ethos, please note that we have a significant setup in place to monitor such troublemakers. The traffic police will be checking vehicles on the way up to Underberg, and we will have SAPS, mounted police, undercover police and over 150 security guards operating on site during the festival.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SAPS & TRAFFIC POLICE WILL BE SETTING UP ROADBLOCKS ON THE WAY TO UNDERBERG AND THE FESTIVAL
Splashy Fen takes place in the Drakensberg where the weather is very unpredictable. We could have sun for four days and we could have rain for four days, so please come prepared!
PLEASE PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE COLD AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE PROPERLY DRESSED
FOOD & DRINKS:
You are welcome to bring your own drinks for consumption into your campsites only, but please ensure that if you do, you stay away from GLASS. NO glass beer bottles will be allowed. If you intend to bring these onto the site, please ensure that they are cans.
There will be 30 food stalls on site operating throughout the festival and our Marley Coffee setup has been expanded to cater for the coffee lovers during the festival.Inside our Splashy Oasis area, we have a gin garden, Jameson and Durbanville Hills wine-tasting experiences, as well as two craft beer stations.
This is a serious point of consideration. We welcome fires at people’s campsites, but please make sure that you operate them responsibly. Fires can spread easily and with your tents and cars so close by, please take extreme caution. If you are not at your campsite, please ensure that you extinguish all fires and coals
At Splashy we have taken steps to reduce our environmental footprint. We will be instituting a full recycling programme around cans and glass, and all our food vendors will be serving meals in environmentally-friendly packaging.
Marley Coffee will no longer offer plastic cup cups. In an effort to reduce single-use plastic, all purchases at the bar will include an initial R10 fee for the biodegradable cup which you will need to use for the weekend. This cup is branded Splashy fen and can be taken home afterwards. We thank everybody for their co-operation and understanding in helping make Splashy better in this regard.
