The Alma Café is very proud to present Songs, Stories and Harmonies ~ An evening with Toni Rowland and Halftime.
Toni Rowland is a seasoned singer-songwriter, raised in the South African music scene and has been the front person for several bands over the years. During her rock phase, she worked with the legendary Ken Hensley of Uriah Heep, who produced her first album “Unfolding”. Her path then crossed with producer-writer Graham Ward, with whom she has now embraced a more contemporary sound. Toni has a passion for strong vocal harmonies and powerful lyrics inspired by artists such as Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Tori Amos, Lorde, Adele and Ellie Goulding. Her songs are inspired by her personal experiences, as a Cancer survivor she has some stories to tell.
Half Time is a brand new Father and Son combination featuring two generations of musicians from some of Cape Town’s best loved acoustic based bands. Richard and Jono Tait and Neil and James Harvey are the two father and son duos who make up this quartet. Covering probably the entire acoustic music spectrum, from bluegrass, through country, folk and singer songwriter and even a bit of roots blues, there’s a bit of every genre at play between these four musicians. All of this is underpinned by a strong harmony vocal component.
Jono Tait from Half Time comments on the show “When Toni approached us, all involved recognised that a shared gig with a crowd-pulling capacity second act, would be essential. These four musicians all have a strong ethos of lending assistance to fellow musicians, and were immediately willing to create and share an event with Toni. Her story of personal strength, hope and true passion for music touched everyone deeply.”
