The Black Cat Bones latest single, “The Greatest Show On Earth” (and first on South Africa’s leading Indie, Just Music) is a funk infused, rollicking, locked in gospel vamp that reimagines a fan favourite.
Requiring no introduction as one of South Africa’s favourite premiere rock acts The Black Cat Bones were formed in Silverton, Pretoria (South Africa) in 2007. Now firmly in the game twelve years later the band is considered one of South Africa’s top touring acts and further acknowledged for their unwavering hard work and blinding live performances.
Collaborating and performing alongside some of the county’s most celebrated artists The Black Cat Bones are in constant high demand, and find themselves just as at home in an intimate toned-down setting as they are on a banging festival stage.
Their debut album “Silverton Swamp Songs” (2009), and the critically acclaimed second helping “The Long Drive”(2011) were heavily influenced by Kobus and André’s roots in the blues. Their third studio release and SAMA-nominated “Beatipiller” (2013) showcased their collective influences as a diverse four piece rock act. In the same year the band also won the MK-Award for “Best Live Act” and emerged from being underground sub-culture champions to a group that is now adored nationwide.
The bands recent album “Here is a Knife” was (2018) found the act a second SAMA (South African Music Awards) nomination for ‘Best Rock Album’. The single ‘The Well’ found strong rotation across SA radio stations including a healthy uplift of some well-deserved mainstream profiling. “The Bones are phenomenal. Their anarchic blues attitude complete with rich guitar and gravel voices always makes them an unforgettable experience.” – Die Beeld “Wise and explosive. Transcending all boundaries…” – Rolling Stone Magazine
