Fundraiser for Hannah Kay – Let’s get Hannah to New York!

Hannah Kay Awarded Part scholarship to New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts

When a talented South African hopeful needs a little help, you better believe we got their backs!

Hannah Kay (Kerchhoff), hailing from the Southern Suburbs (Cape Flats) has been awarded a part scholarship to New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. Her course is an Associate Degree Program in Musical Theater. She will need to start in August 2020.

This is a huge achievement for Hannah and her family. She has sadly missed many great opportunities due to lack of funding and she really needs our support to make this happen for her.

One of Hannahs’ initiatives is to host a fundraiser next week Sunday 17 November 2019 at the Radisson Red Hotel, V&A Waterfront. The purpose of this concert is to raise funds to pursue her offer and a lifelong dream to study the Arts in New York.

Tell your friends, bring Mom & Dad, and enjoy the beautiful voice of Hanna Kay while supporting her promising future!

About Hanna Kay

Hannah has always had an affinity to the arts, particularly singing, drama and dance. Her dad, Lloydd is a musician who also started at a very young age. When Hannah was a baby, her dad used to sing to her and she simply loved it. When she was about 5 years old, she started messing around on the piano at home something which could be described as the start of her love-affair with music.

Her brother, Noah is a talented drummer and self taught bassist. They would often spend hours, together with their Dad, playing music at home. It was somewhat of a family past time. It has been incredible to see how the family has grown sharing their love for music, says Lynne, Hannahs Mother.

Hannah played the flute at a family wedding at the tender age of 10, her first paid gig. At this stage, Hannah had already shown her commitment to her craft and understood that the key to succeeding at anything in life requires hard work and dedication. It is often a lonely journey. Music became her means of communicating, sharing things about herself and a way of expressing feelings and opinions about everyday struggles as a young lady from the Cape Flats.

Hannah attended flute lessons for 8 years and vocal lessons for 5 years and has written her Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams

In 2015, Hannah started figure skating and participated in club level competitions and Western Province Figure Skating Championships Inter Club Grades Section: Intermediate One & Grade 5.

Their is no end to the skill & talent this young entertainer has within her!

One notable performance was an all night vigil against the abuse of woman and children #IamNOTnext. Hannah sang a cover by Andra Day called “Rise Up”.

Part of the chorus is:

‘And I’ll rise up, I’ll rise like the day, I’ll rise up, I’ll rise unafraid, I’ll rise up, And I’ll do it a thousand times again’

This has been one of Hannah’s motto’s, no matter what happens, she will always rise up, often defying the odds and going on to do things that even surprised her parents and family.

Some of Hannahs’ most memorable musical moments:

  • 2017: Recorded a solo and part of the Choir on the St Joseph’s Marist College CD at the Nuthouse Recording Studio
  • 2018 Semifinalist: Diva’s Unite singing competition at the Waterfront Amphitheater.
    Joined the Cape Philamonia Choir.
LAMTA: attended a week long musical theatre workshop.
Professionally recorded 2 of her own songs.
  • 2019 Performed at her sold out concert at the Alma Cafe
Performed at Music Exchange Conference opening held at the Radisson Red Hotel, Rooftop Bar.
Invited to perform for Siv Ngesi at the Radisson Red Hotel, V&A Waterfront

One of Hannahs favourite quotes “People often ask me why I chose music, I believe that music chose me”

We certainly agree – This girl was BORN with music in her veins!

“I don’t want to be the next Beyonce or Rihanna, I simply want to be the best version of me and work on improving my gift and helping other young people like me.”- Hannah Kay
