Introducing Takamia Music! Singing everyday stories of the ordinary African, soulfully

Takamia Music is a vibrant Song writer, vocalist and acoustic guitarist, deeply rooted in African culture and style (Reggae and Afro-Soul) bearing “everyday stories of the ordinary African”.

From Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni; his band currently consists of 6 members, all from very different backgrounds and all of them bringing amazing skills into the mix.

Born in Dindela, Vosloorus, Takamia has always been an active person from playing soccer in his early years to keeping a tight exercise schedule now. With over 19 years of experience in the entertainment industry behind the scenes, he was Inspired by Kemma of the Chicco and the Gypsys back at Carnival City while he was junior sound engineer. He decided at that moment to pick up the guitar, specifically acoustic, and TEACH HIMSELF how to play! I mean, who does that?

It was inevitable that he would eventually start his own band which he called Balance De Band, the band lasted for 4 years performing every month from 2014. He had grown the band from being an acoustic band (with just two vocals, acoustic guitar and percussions) to being a full 8 piece band (drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, four vocalists and a narrator “rapper”), his vision was an African culture and style, with heavy elements of afro soul, hip hop and reggae fused together.

He played on numerous stages around Gauteng, the most memorable amongst those being the Reconciliation Day Picnic at Carnival City hosted by Thiko Events where he opened the stage for industry greats like Cassper Nyovest, K.O. and Nothende, he also played at Soweto Theatre (Soweto Arts and Crafts Fair), Sawubona Music Jam and the Nali’ilanga Series produced by Jozi Unsigned and also the started a series of live music shows in the neighbourhood of Vosloorus called Kasi Concerts were he performed as a resident monthly “ sharing the stage with industry giants like Selmor Mtukudzi, Samthing Soweto, Ntsiki Mazwai B.O.Y. Wonder, Hendrik Monyeki, Radio 123 and  many more”.

The band Takamia music had initially started, Balance De Band, is sadly now defunct, but through pushing the band to heights that superseded his own expectation, and going all the way to record the bands two singles, was an eye opener for Takamia, realising his possibilities were endless in his quest to conquer souls in an African way.

Ugqozi records officially launched Takamia Music on the 2nd of June 2019 at Monate Fella Roadhouse Vosloorus which was an invite only event . Bands that were featured were Ice Jay & Ntombenhle, with Ekurhuleni news publishing an article on the super successful launch.
