JUSTIN SERRAO

Justin Serrao pours his heart out in the beautiful power ballad for ‘Perfect Stranger’, which is out now across all digital platforms.

Have a listen to ‘Perfect Stranger’ HERE.

“’Perfect stranger’ is a song about not wanting to settle for the next candidate just because they are there. Looking back on love lost. The struggle of a broken heart,” and Serrao captures every essence of the song’s message with his incredible vocal delivery.

Serrao joined renowned SA producer and musician, Mark Beling, in studio for the writing and recording of this single. “I had something I wanted to get off my chest in the writing of ‘Perfect Stranger’, so I came to Mark with a stripped-down love song and we turned it into this big ballad. Was about 3 months of back and forth with this baby,” and the time spent in studio and working with Beling, has paid off.

‘Perfect Stranger’ celebrates Serrao’s signature Country-Rock sound and elevates it into a powerful ballad that cries with the struggle of a broken heart.

Justin Serrao is one of the hardest working musicians in the industry. From his first band Smash & Grab Hotspot, to releasing his first solo album Touching Toes Without Clothes in 2012, starting his promotion and live event business ‘Yoh Yoh Yoh Shows’, releasing his 2nd album Forget and Let Loose in 2014, dropping solo singles and collaborating with other local acts on tracks like Sucker (solo); Kinders Van Die Wind (feat. Regardt Scheepers – which helped open Justin to the Afrikaans market); Raining in my Soul and Winding Road with punk-pop band CrashCarBurn, and in 2018 dropping what’s probably regarded as his best collective solo work to date – his One Year Warning EP.

EL MUKUKU

Regarded as Zambia’s top DJ/Producer, El Mukuka drops his latest single ‘Colder’ across all digital platforms today. Have a listen to ‘Colder’ HERE.

He has joined forces with Gallo Record Company to release his latest track ‘Colder’ and the single is everything but what the title suggests. The powerful upbeat dance track is another brilliant club banger from El Mukuka and this time he has created something unique with this single.

“Colder is one of those songs that in a way wrote itself. It’s so personal and straight forward that all I really had to do was allow the words and music to flow out of me uninterruptedly. Something really unique about this song is that I both wrote and sang it, which is something I rarely do. Initially, during the writing process, my vocal takes were only meant to serve as guiding vocals for whoever was eventually going to sing the song. Over time however, my vocals stuck because I later realized just how much the song needed vocals that were rustic, emotive and full of expression,” explains El.

El Mukuka is an unusual story. Born in Lusaka, Zambia to a Greek mother and Zambian father, his appreciation and love for his two diverse cultures not only enriched his identity but also inspired him deeply. The rising African star is regarded as Zambia’s top DJ/Producer and is best known for fusing African music with European deep/melodic house. The young DJ has performed at some of the biggest festivals in sub-Saharan Africa alongside A-List African acts such as Black Coffee, Mi Casa, Goldfish and DJ Maphorisa.

Mukuka’s 2016 release “Bottle of Loneliness” earned him a place in the international house scene with various iTunes, Spotify and terrestrial radio chart rankings in Spain, Argentina, Estonia, Russia and Zambia as well as millions of streams worldwide. The song later caught the attention of the European smash hit DJ duo Filatov & Karas who remixed it in 2017 driving the song’s success even further. Since then El Mukuka has had releases on some of the biggest labels in the dance music scene and has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Budweiser Zambia.

Durban fans can catch El Mukuka on the decks for the Corona Sunsets Festival in Durban on Saturday 28 September. All info HERE.

GRASSY SPARK

Following the success of their three latest singles and in keeping with their newfound role as chameleons of sound; Grassy Spark are releasing a remix EP for their ultra-groovy dance track ‘Flow’.

The band approached local producers to do remixes of ‘Flow’ for the 4 track EP, giving them the freedom to add their own individual twist to the song and encouraging them to let their creative juices flow. The EP features remixes by well-known producers Bakai and The Kiffness, who worked alongside multi-instrumentalist Clem Carr; as well as up and coming producers Milan Rendall and Rainbuoy. The result is a dynamic collaborative effort which expands on and transforms the original song, and which encompasses a variety of electronic genres.

What makes the EP so exciting is that each artists’ own distinctly individual sound and style shines through in their remixes, with each track offering a completely fresh and unique interpretation of ‘Flow’. This ultimately culminates in an EP in which no two tracks sound alike.

On their decision to explore a collaborative project, vocalist Josh Riley says “I think from the inception of Portal we opened ourselves up as collaborators with tracks featuring Jeremy Loops and Bonj Mpanza. Now that we are in the process of a creative shift, naturally we were drawn towards the agenda of curating creative experiences with other creatives.

A Remix EP is the perfect way to do that because, each remixer can treat it how they want and paint the canvas freely – this is what we want, this is the space we are in; you could call it childlike expression.”

The Flow Remix EP is the latest move in a vast change in direction for the band as they continue on their mission to curate and create music which explores the boundaries of sound and creativity, ultimately taking their music further.
