Hot on the heels of “Flow”, Grassy Spark are back at it again with their rollicking new single “Are You Talking”. A first for the band, “Are You Talking” sees Saxophonist and keyboardist Simon Ackermann confidently taking the vocal reins. Engaging and emphatically delivered, with a touch of exuberance; “Are You Talking” is an undeniably cool and equally as memorable offering from the band.
“Are You Talking” is the latest release in a trio of singles which have completely redefined the band’s sound, or rather proved that their sound defies being defined. With each song continuing the band’s metamorphosis into something that resists, in every possible way, being boxed into any one specific genre but that still has that dynamic quality which characterises their music; Grassy Spark prove they’re all about change and pushing creative boundaries.

“For a long time now the desire to sing has been eating at my insides and eventually I realised that resistance is futile. I’ve been playing in bands since I was 10 years old and I knew I had to experience this side of music that I had previously not embraced. Like most song writers, the thing that inspired me the most was love. It was the story of my relationship that motivated the content. From the first verse which describes when we first met at a club and the burning desire for her to notice me, to the vocal chant “I just can’t get enough” which declares my craving for her and how it trumps everything and is endless; the song, as it progresses, outlines the growth of our life together.
It’s been over a year in the making and I am super excited to finally release this record. I’m very proud of it and I hope it brings joy to many people’s lives,” comments Simon Ackermann.
Simon Ackermann takes his newfound role as vocalist with self-assured ease which, along with the upbeat tempo and out of this world synth, coalesces to form a song that you can’t help but dance along to.
