International blues guitarist- singer-songwriter Doc Maclean (USA/Can) returns for his fourth South African to embark on his solo acoustic N’ganga Blues tour telling songs and singing stories. Doc’s early mentors were the grandchildren of slaves- and he keeps their gifts close to the heart, and close to the Bone. N’ganga Blues celebrates this relationship and explores this continuing journey.
MacLean now mentors a number of South African blues, roots and traditional artists, actively seeking opportunities for them to tour North America and elsewhere. Albert Frost previously toured with Maclean and this time MacLean will co-write songs and record an album with him and the legendary Tim Parr from the South African super rock group Ella Mental.
During 40 years of touring Doc MacLean has performed with the who’s who of first and second generation blues, roots and gospel artists such as Sam Chatmon, Peg Leg Sam, and Blind John Davis. Among many others, he has supported Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, and BB King. As a songwriter and storyteller, MacLean has recorded with members of the Canned Heat and Mavis Staples bands. . Tickets cost R400 per person with a 2 course dinner included. Move to the beat of Afrikaans music legend, Theuns Jordaan, at the annual Summer Picnic Concert at Overhex Winery near Worcester on Saturday, 1 February 2020.
With six solo albums and sales of more than 1,5 million since 2000, Jordaan forms part of the Afrikaans music hall of fame. Sing along to his most popular songs while enjoying the picnic style setting and relaxing with a glass of Mensa wine.
Just like Jordaan’s laid back songs, Mensa wines are closely aligned to storytelling. Perfect for enjoying while listening to music with a good book, the range consists of a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, a delicious Chardonnay Pinot Noir and a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon.
Mensa is the perfect outdoor wine with its easy twist Helix cork closure that opens and reseals the wine without a corkscrew.
Gates open at 16h00. Local artist, Michael Moore will provide the soundtrack to your late afternoon before Jordaan takes the stage.
Tickets to the Overhex Summer Picnic Concert are priced at R250 per person and include a picnic basket filled with delicious goodies. Mensa wines will be available for purchase. For tickets, visit www.webtickets.co.za.
From its inception, Carpusa Tango has had a clear purpose: to bring back, through their unique style, the Golden Age of Tango. In lunfardo, the slang of Buenos Aires, carpusa means “experience”–and Carpusa, because of their experience, see themselves as part of a tradition that began over a hundred years ago when tango consisted of a voice and a guitar. In their performances, both intimate and passionate, these two artists give life to the magic of this music and demonstrate why it is so famous all over the world.
