Francois Van Coke announces ‘Stripped Down in Lockdown’ Livestream
If you were hoping to see Francois van Coke naked…. we’re sorry!
The COVID 19 pandemic has plucked all of us out of our comfort zones and stronger measures have to be taken in order to survive. In Francois’ case it is not to start stripping professionally, but it’s rather the stripping down to the core of the music that he has written over the past 17 years.
On Tuesday, 28 April, Francois will offer his first livestream show from his home in Bellville, Cape Town. It will be the first time in ten years that he will perform a 100% solo – just him on his acoustic guitar, with no Jedd Kossew, Die Gevaar, Fokofpolisiekar or Van Coke Kartel to back him up.

Francois explains: “The fact that we can’t play live shows kind of left a hole in me. I’ve been playing live shows on a regular basis for the past twenty years. It has become an integral part of my life and DNA and to not be able to do it makes me feel weird.
So, I’ve made a plan!
The whole thing is a bit scary, not just performing by myself, but also dealing with the sound and new streaming tech. Before lockdown I would just have gotten help. Now it is up to me. But, it’s all good and I am up for the challenge.”

Since the ban on gatherings of 100 plus people on 15 March 2020, musicians like Francois had to deal with a lot of show cancellations and loads of music industry uncertainties, especially with no one knowing for how long this ban will stick.
Although livestreaming has been around for a while, it immediately became the go-to solution with various artist trying it out in different ways.
For Francois and his team it was important to create a solid livestreaming platform that can be used in the future. Not just for Francois, but also for their other projects. They have teamed up with livestream professionals Militia Broadcast, livestream.com and cleeng.com to ensure a 100% seamless pay-per-play views.
“It is important that artists should monetise on their streaming performances as they have been doing with live performances for decades. I do believe that we have an opportunity here to create something that can stick, even after the gatherings ban has been lifted,” says Francois’ manager Wynand Myburgh (Valkie Van Coke).
