The aim of the song?

“To hopefully inspire and help the millions of people around the world who are suffering from mental health issues”… “Songwriting is therapeutic for me,”she says. “It allows me to to turn my pain into art.

Since the age of seven, I have suffered from severe anxiety. It has held me back from the normal things that children should be experiencing during their childhood and it placed a lot of stress on me and my family.

From the age of nine, I was already on medication and in therapy to help me cope with these overwhelming feelings that I was experiencing.

This worked for a while as I also had my dancing to keep me going. However, at 13, I fell into severe depression that lasted for many months. It was the darkest time of my life.

I was thinking thoughts and experiencing feelings that no one my age should have had to experience. It was only after this difficult time period that I was officially diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and clinical depression.”

Savannah continues, “Thankfully, with a lot of therapy and new medication I was able to regain self control and become myself again. I have made massive progress in dealing with my condition over the years, but I still face struggles every day.

Singing has always been a part of my life as it acted as a means to escape my problems and worries. In 2019, I discovered songwriting and this allowed me to turn my pain into art. It served as my therapy and awakened something in me that I did not know existed. This is where my new song “Free” stems from.

I wrote the lyrics while also acting as co-composer. It was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life and I knew that I had found my new passion.

Mental illness is a serious problem that in my opinion, is not taken seriously enough. Through “Free” I want to destroy the stigma that surrounds mental disorders and create awareness about the struggles that people who are suffering from these mental disorders may face.

People should not be afraid to reach out for help and to talk about what they are going through because even just talking about it can make a world of a difference.

I hope that I will be able to help people who may be going through the same experiences that I am going through and be able to express to them that they are not alone no matter how alone they may be feeling “.

Her debut single, FREE, is a deeply personal account of her journey, holding a symbolic message for the broader population as well.

FREE resonates a worldwide message. Says Savannah Fay, “Looking back, I cannot help but feel a sense of gratitude for my challenges. They paved the way for the creation of a song that I hope will potentially help others struggling with similar issues”

“It is okay to reach out for help,” she urges. “Do not allow society or the stigma that surrounds mental health to stop you from getting the help you need.”
