There has been a void in the music industry since the 23rd February 2022. The day the devastating news came of Riky Rick Makhado’s passing. Even more painful to Family, friends and fans, the fact that Riky had taken his own life – we mourned. We still mourn!
Of course we never anticipated ever hearing another track with Riky’s name on. But here we are, receiving new music from him, like a final message from the ‘other side’! Collaborators, Lebo Machudifuse, Ganja Beatz and Audio Militia, knitted Riky’s words lovingly and skillfully together, like a warm comfort blanket, for those still living and struggling with their own inner demons.
With the use of AI and Riky’s actual sentiments lifted off social media for the lyrics, Riky’s family have released the track in his honour. The song is titled ‘Stronger‘.
The purpose of this unexpected release is to raise awareness and acknowledge those who are struggling with mental health issues. This will of course, at the same time, be a beautiful gift to his adoring friends and fans who are still trying to deal with their loss.
The video featuring the songs lyrics and images of Riky Rick is bitter sweet – it is beautiful, and it hurts like hell! The message…”Take care of the people that are close to you“. Let us embrace these words, let us be proactive, check in on our friends and family, and keep Riky’s legacy alive, because this land is still his home, and he still loves you!
When hip hop icon Riky Rick lost his battle with mental illness we didn’t just lose a massive musical talent, but also a source of positive energy, a person whose words uplifted everyone around him.
To honour his legacy of positivity and promote mental well-being we brought Riky’s voice back to life using his social media posts to create a track called “Stronger”
Cotton Fest
The inaugural Cotton Fest will go on! The festival was founded by Riky Rick and his girlfriend (co-founder) Bianca, in 2019! The popular music, fashion and lifestyle event will be hosted this year by Ricky’s family, on 2nd July at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban, Riky’s place of birth.
