Apple Gule Tackles Destructive ways with ‘Wake up Sing’

Apple Gule Tackles Destructive ways with ‘Wake up Sing’ – Apple Gule’s new single, Wake Up Sing, tells the story of a man trying to stop his destructive ways – drinking, partying, late nights – all leading to the bottom with his only escape being music.
“The words “wake up sing” are just that. A man whose love is music & his everything,” he shares. “It’s what he’s good at and what he loves.” An idea that was born from a small snippet he heard online, the team he collaborated with helped bring this vision to life. “I have an amazing team. Gareth & Misha from Brand New Artist Solutions, who put me together with a bunch of seriously good musicians.”
Another step in to country pop
The single is another step further into the country pop genre that Apple Gule has been exploring. As far as whether or not that was intentional, he confesses that he wanted to make it all about the music and storytelling. “Country music is one of the most honest genres when it comes to that. Though I don’t want it to all be about country, I want it to be about great music. I believe this is a good place to start. I’m a storyteller, and where I’m from, it’s what we do, we share stories.”
His inaugural country single, ‘Grizzly‘ emerged from a moment of personal reflection. Collaborating with producer Zādok, pedal steel guitarist Sez Adamson, and featuring a Zulu verse by Anzo, ‘Grizzly‘ offers a South African twist on traditional country music.
More on Apple Gule

Collaborations of his include Kyle Watson, Crazy White Boy, Da Capo, and more. A recent highlight in his career includes opening up for English singer Calum Scott. “I’m really happy with the creative space I’m currently in.” With an EP in the works along with a string of more shows, there’s plenty to be excited about for Apple Gule.
“Making music can be easy, but making good music is the challenge. The reward comes when you’ve learnt your voice and what you want to represent & having people resonate with you. It’s an ongoing evolution, but I think I’m slowly finding out what I want to do more.”
Best advice he’s ever received? “Throw spice on whatever you do. Don’t half-ass it,” he shares. “And make sure you text your parents anytime you can.”
