Formerly known as Kyla Nicole, a Johannesburg-born singer-songwriter whose sound is as fluid and emotive as her journey. With roots in classic Motown and a love for South African house, Skys a Blu first caught the country’s attention with her breakout radio hit, a reimagined version of Summer Rain by Bujo Mujo, which topped charts nationwide.
Now, she brings her evolved sound and vision to ‘Closer.’ A dreamy, feel-good anthem that fuses R&B vocals with a groove-heavy pop rhythm and subtle disco energy. “Closer is about leaning into joy and letting go a little. I wanted to make something that feels like freedom. Light, warm, a little nostalgic, and just really good for the soul.”

Her reinvention as Skys a Blu marked more than a name change. It was a declaration of creative independence. “Now I know who I am, and I get to make music on my own terms,” she shares. With that came not just a shift in sound, but also the birth of Skys a Blu Studios, her own creative sanctuary in Johannesburg. The studio was built to empower emerging artists, producers, writers, and vocalists, offering the kind of support and space she once needed herself.
Following the success of her single ‘Guiding Light’, ‘Closer’ picks up where she left off. Uplifting, soulful, and rooted in authenticity. “The starting point is the sky,” she says. If ‘Closer’ is anything to go by, her trajectory is only heading upward.
