After his parents died, Maigret left for Paris, rising quickly through the ranks of the Paris Police thanks to his fearlessness and deep knowledge of criminal gangs. He’s an unusual detective. Empathetic to perpetrators and indifferent to hierarchy and authority. Maigret is the newly appointed Chief Inspector of the Brigade Criminelle of the Police Judiciaire. The elite investigative unit of the Paris Police. They work with a team of maverick but loyal detectives who are known as Les Maigrets. His safe place is his home, with his wife, Louise (Stefanie Martini), however, his childhood home still lingers in his dreams with its beauty, its sadness and its unresolved issues.
Meet Les Maigrets
Sergeant Andrea Lucas (Kerrie Hayes)
Maigret’s steady number two and the rock on which the church of Maigret is built. She has something between adoration and a crush on Maigret, that said, she is not blind to his idiosyncrasies.
Sergeant Joseph Torrence (Blake Harrison)
An archetypal detective with a quick wit, deep experience of the streets and knowledge of the criminal mind. Married with grown-up children, he is unfit, drinks too much and his habits and attitudes are resolutely old school.
Detective Berthe Janvier (Shaniqua Okwok)
Confident, stylish, fearless, drives her car too fast, and doesn’t suffer fools. She, much to her own amazement, has fallen in love with the married Torrence and is doing what she can to hide the attraction.
Detective Karim Lapointe (Reda Elazouar)
He has enjoyed the usual youthful indiscretions, and this is how he caught Maigret’s attention. Lapointe is now the squad’s computer expert, and a bright intuitive and savvy investigator. Even more than Maigret, he chafes at authority. Often struggling with the discipline and respect for rank that is required.
Inspector Justin Cavre (Robert Kazinsky)
Resents Maigret for his new promotion, leading him to try too hard, claim credit where he shouldn’t and make mistakes where he needn’t. His anxiety isn’t helped by a strained marriage and an expensive wife who frets at the limitations of his salary. They all question his loyalty, perhaps rightfully so.
Prosecutor Mathilde Kernavel (Nathalie Armin)
Bright, ambitious and driven. Swiftly climbing the slippery ladder of the legal profession, she is now one of the top Prosecutors working for the Ministry of Justice in Paris.
Maigret, for PBS Masterpiece (US), was produced by Playground Entertainment. This series, directed by Patrick Harbinson, Faye Gilbert and David Evans. Banijay Rights handles international distribution.
