‘Volume’ is the 8th studio album by the enigmatic Afrikaans forward-thinkers Die Heuwels Fantasties. On this riveting new album Die Heuwels forges their musical influences from the nineties with the sounds of the current digital streaming era to create exciting new tunes. ‘Volume’ releases today, Friday 22 October and consists of an eclectic mix of acoustic hits, pop-punk, synth ballads and a side order of electro-folk for a delicious sonic umami.
Hunter Kennedy says that he can`t wait to introduce these latest musical offerings to their fans. “This is our third album since the pandemic started. For me, it is evident on this album that making so many new songs over the past 18 months have sharpened our songwriting and recording- senses. This is a well-oiled album! I think that Pierre did a great job with the writing of the single “EGGO” and the decision to collab with Spoegwolf on this track took it to the next level. I also particularly like the energy of ‘Werk Vir ’n Lewe.’ We kind of jumped in where Blink-182 left off. To sum it up, I would say that ‘Volume’ is a mix between the maturity of ‘Herverbeel’ and the urgency of ‘2021′, our two albums that were released in 2020. “Volume II” is also already in the making and will follow shortly on the heels of this first edition.”
Fred den Hartog adds: “With ‘Volume’ we worked on a different approach with the saxophone, guitar, piano, percussion and vocals. We recorded sporadically until the tunes and instruments gave us something unique and new, while still undoubtedly Heuwels, if that makes sense.”
“EGGO”, the first single off the album, is a scanty ballad for uncertain times. Subtle piano and cello offer breathing space for the emotive vocals by Pierre (Die Heuwels Fantasties) and Danie (Spoegwolf). The crescendo of the track is a cathartic meeting between two generations of alternative Afrikaners. “EGGO” available on all digital platforms
