Originally written and performed by Johnny Clegg and Savuka, “Asimbonanga” became one of the defining songs of the anti-apartheid movement – a bold and unifying call for the release and recognition of Nelson Mandela at a time when even his name was banned. Today, its message remains as powerful as ever, reminding us of music’s ability to inspire change, bring people together, and give voice to a nation.
The Scatterlings album
The Scatterlings album is a concept project created by Jesse Clegg, son of Johnny Clegg, alongside acclaimed singer-songwriter Msaki. Together, they have brought together a collective of artists to reimagine this body of work. Ensuring that its message continues to live, evolve, and inspire.
Among the artists set to feature on the album are Grammy-winning Zakes Bantwini, Sun-El Musician, Simmy, Jesse Clegg, Msaki, and many more. This, reflecting the depth and diversity of South Africa’s contemporary music scene.
