Tkay Maidza Returns with New Single & Cheeky Visuals for ‘Kim’ Ft. YungBaby Tate
Music Video Pays Homage To The Quintessential 'Kims' in Pop Culture

After a stratospheric 2020 that earned Tkay Maidza the #1 Best EP of the Year nod from The Needle Drop, today she returns with a new single and video for ‘Kim’ featuring Yung Baby Tate, which Zane Lone premiered on his Beats 1 show.
‘Kim’ follows the ARIA-nominated 2020 EP Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 and continues her trajectory as one of the most exciting new figures in Hip Hop. The song’s grimy synths, courtesy of producer Dan Farber, and Tkay’s stinging duck-and-weave rap attack are joined by Yung Baby Tate for a guest verse, who matches the energy with an extra layer of sharp-witted heat.
The accompanying video sees Tkay embody three iconic Kims : Kim Possible, Lil Kim and Kim Kardashian. Highlights include Lil Kim’s iconic 1999 MTV VMAs outfit, and Kim Kardashian’s internet-breaking PAPER cover shoot, and a 10-story tall Yung Baby Tate playing the role of Kim Possible’s nemesis, Shego.

Tkay Maidza on the single and video: “The idea for the song came from Kim Possible, an iconic figure in my childhood – she always came out on top. I thought why not make a song to remind those who question me that I will always figure it out like Kim. From there when we started planning a video we thought why not recreate iconic moments from other iconic Kims across generations.”
2020 was the year Zimbabwe-born, Australia-raised Tkay Maidza was propelled to new heights. From billboards in Times Square, to features in Pitchfork and Vogue and a placement on the FIFA Soundtrack, The Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2 EP presented a compelling new stride for the young artist.
Across 8 songs, Maidza’s mastery of sonic versatility took centre stage, showcasing an eclectic mix of influences that spanned blends of bounce, dark trap, alt-R&B, neo-soul, and her signature modern hip-hop. The ARIA nominated EP for Best Soul/R&B Release received adoration from the likes of Stereogum, Wonderland, The Guardian, PAPER and more.
