Review of ‘It Gets Better’ From Sheron – As a self-professed and self-crowned, greatest fan of Sheron, every new release from him feels less like listening to music and more like stepping into an intimate conversation. ‘It Gets Better‘ is no exception. It’s a well paced, soulful unfolding of vulnerability. That quiet kind of honesty Sheron does so well. You can almost feel his voice holding your hand through the ache.
This song, feels like it was written for me….
And for you.
For anyone who’s ever tried to love again after being hurt.
Sheron tells the story of a woman whose past has been bruised by toxic love. The kind that leaves scars invisible but unforgettable, sometimes, debilitating. She’s learned to survive by building walls, not realizing that sometimes those same walls are keeping the light out. The love out. Her new love interest sees her pain, recognizes it, because he’s been there too, and softly reminds her, ‘It gets better.’
They never teach you how to let another person deep inside your heart And when it happens something always makes you tear it up apart
scared to slip away
Is it ok to be ok?
What I love most about Sheron’s songwriting is how effortlessly he captures truth and the substance of each emotion. His words feel lived-in, like they’ve been through it, and then some. There’s a tenderness in his delivery that feels gentle, but never forceful. He doesn’t just sing about empathy he literally embodies it. Certain phrases in the song feel like he’s breathing hope into every syllable.
The production is understated just the way it should be. It cradles his voice, letting the emotion and lyrics lead and land effectively.
Thinking out loud, I keep circling back to him saying that he will wait for her. He sounds so believable. Because when Sheron sings, there’s no artifice, only truth. So I can’t help but wonder… does he?
Sheron, if there’s one thing you’ve taught us with ‘It Gets Better‘, it’s that love and healing are stories still being written…
