Introducing Cape Towns Gbaby with a debut single that will leave you feeling ‘Blessed’
Cape Town has a new rising star in Gbaby as he releases his debut single ‘Blessed’ through Gallo Record Company across all digital platforms today.
‘Blessed’ is the debut single from Gbaby – an up and coming Hip Hop/Pop artist from the mother city, releasing fresh new music that comes straight from the heart. Attending high school in Cape Town, Gbaby ended up in a gang, and that’s when life turned grey for him.
Seeing and experiencing life behind bars allowed him to compare it to a free one. So, it was an easy decision to make and he started studying to better his life. All was going well, until 2020 when both his brother and uncle passed away. It was then that he decided to go for his dream of making music.
Finally releasing his debut single ‘Blessed’, 2021 is turning things around for Gbaby who celebrates this momentous occasion for his career. “It feels like a dream come true. Something I envisioned before. It was inevitable, it feels real, and it feels amazing. Dreams are made possible!!”

In a time when being blessed is really a blessing in itself, Gbaby talks about how the song came about for him and the meaning behind ‘Blessed’.
“Generally people associate being blessed with having an abundance of money. Although, throughout my life I’ve lived and seen the contrary when it comes to being blessed. Being blessed can be as simple as appreciating every day we get to see. I believe the blessings are right under our noses, around us and within us all. All we need is to change our perspectives and see those blessings. And finally, the song ‘Blessed’ was inspired by the beautiful city I was born in, and the beautiful neighbourhood of Sea-Point I live in.”
Gbaby worked with DJ and producer DSB on the production of ‘Blessed’ during level 3 of lockdown and the studio itself added its own feeling of being blessed to the process.
“Upon entering the studio, we were in full view of the iconic Table Mountain with the sun setting behind it, the beautiful weather and soft coloured skies. Every break we took on the balcony we had Lions head in our side view and it was magical. Right there was an even bigger sense of gratitude towards life,” recalls Gbaby during the recording session.
After listening to the beat in studio he immediately felt the life in it and started writing and what came to life is the ‘Blessed’ single that debuts his music to everyone today.
