The Real City Makoti redefines Reality TV

By Mwaka Monze

The Real City Makoti redefines Reality TV – The Real City Makoti hosted an exclusive screening on 27 January 2026 at The Forum Campus in Bryanston and I had the pleasure of attending. The event captured the show’s stylish and warm energy perfectly. Guests were welcomed by women in traditional attire, featuring the signature orange, blending culture with modern style. Cocktails flowed as the DJ played the latest hits. The cast sat in a reserved section, turning the pre-screening wait into a lively social moment.

The venue featured stunning floral arrangements, artwork, custom Ray Content Hub cushions, wall decals, and a sleek photo station. Guests posed on the red carpet with star-quality flair as MC Alphi Sipho Mkhwanazi kept the mood high with witty commentary. Produced by Ray Content Hub, The Real City Makoti follows five newlywed women juggling city life and modern day womanhood. A meeting point where traditional norms embrace the somewhat unconventional.

Anika Dambuza balances a newborn with her Xhosa-Afrikaans intercultural marriage. Keneilwe Mpolokeng navigates her sangoma duties alongside polygamy. Sessy Mofokeng, mother of four, is in a polyamorous relationship with partner Collin and proudly embraces her bisexuality. Lucy Mahlangu explores submission on her own terms while Linda Mbunyuza blends tradition with a luxurious modern lifestyle.

Tune in tonight at 18h30 on Mzansi Wethu – Channel 163

The first episode delivers humour, relatability and a dash of drama, offering a refreshing South African perspective on newlywed life, family, and self-identity. It stays true to the cast’s mission of keeping things real. When asked how Ray Content Hub aims to transform viewing experiences, Thabile Ngwato said: “I think it was being able to transition into creating content for other platforms as well. We started with DSTV and MultiChoice, which we’ve had a relationship with since the inception of Newzroom Afrika. That’s essentially how we are going to change things.

We brought in young people to work with us. Even on the show in particular, that’s why we wanted to bring in new faces. Some already had social media presence, but for mainstream TV, they hadn’t. We wanted to create a platform for new faces and young people behind the scenes. You’d have seen our young, dynamic team making all of this happen.”
