Mariah The Scientist Shines at Sunbet Arena – R&B singer Mariah The Scientist graced SunBet Arena in Pretoria on January 3.  Setting a high standard for international artists heading to South Africa in 2026 as the country cements its status as a concert hotspot. The arena was packed, with over 10,000 fans stretching from the Golden Circle to the nosebleeds.

Supporting acts DJ Milo and Manana kept the energy high, followed by LordKez, who offered a brief breather with a more relaxed set. The atmosphere surged when Blxckie took the stage. A-Reece kept the crowd going with his slick flows. Ayanda MVP kept the momentum steady with a high-energy DJ set. Mixing everything from Drake to Rihanna, Summer Walker, and Nicki Minaj.

Enter Mariah The Scientist

Mariah’s set was delayed by over an hour, which led to impatient fans booing in frustration. Nerves calmed when she finally appeared, and all was forgiven. She was greeted by deafening cheers, rocking an all-green camo outfit and a South African flag as a bandana. Mariah opened with “Sacrifice” and “United Nations + 1000 Ways To Die” from her latest project. Fan favourites “All For Me” and “Spread Thin” were among the loudest moments. The crowd sang every lyric word for word back to her.

2 You” kept the energy high, and the 2019 deep cut “Not A Love Song” drew a heartwarming response. She even paused “All For Me” before replaying it, heightening the crowd’s excitement. A fan caught her attention with a sign that stated Mariah’s music had helped her heal from a recent heartbreak.

South Africa Crowned “Best Audience”

Mariah crowned South Africa the best audience she ever performed for. She pulled out her phone to capture the crowd and posted further praise for SA fans on her Instagram story. Despite past online criticism of her live vocals, she delivered crisp high and low notes with great vocal control. This, clearly displaying her improved vocal prowess throughout the evening.

The highly anticipated “Burning Blue” closed her 1-hour set perfectly. Confetti and smoke filled the arena as Mariah soaked in the audience’s love. With a shy Happy New Year and heartfelt goodbye, she left fans buzzing. Love her or hate her, Mariah The Scientist is undeniably here to stay.
