Mango Groove Celebrates Four Decades

‘Memories and Moments’ – Mango Groove and Special Guests Live at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, Sunday 14 September 2025

Mango Groove Celebrates Four Decades – 2025 is the Year of the Mango. To mark an extraordinary 40 years of music, joy and unity, Mango Groove and BreakOut Events are proud to present The Mango Groove 40th Anniversary Concert: ‘Memories and Moments.’ Mango Groove will be live at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Johannesburg on Sunday, 14 September 2025.

This unmissable Jozi hometown celebration marks Mango Groove’s first major Johannesburg performance in five years. It follows on the heels of their sold-out 40th anniversary kick-off concert at Kirstenbosch Gardens in January. That show set a new bar for celebration, spectacle, and sentiment. Now, it’s Jozi’s turn to experience the magic.

Kirstenbosch was such a special and moving show for us. The response was overwhelming and affirmed that this is something we had to bring home to Jozi. After considering many venues, we knew the Walter Sisulu Gardens was the perfect choice: family-friendly, stunningly beautiful, and ideal for a day under our blue African skies.” ~ Claire Johnston

The concert will mirror the Kirstenbosch production while adding unique touches and surprises exclusive to the Jozi edition. This includes special guest performances from Ross Learmonth and Majozi, a dazzling visual production, and the adorable Special Star dancers. Expect a nostalgic celebration of hits, stories, and visuals, wrapped in a giant Mango Groove-style party.

This isn’t just a concert. It’s a moving celebration of our country and the journey we’ve all shared. It’s about joy, connection, and the power of music to bring people together.” ~ Claire Johnston

Born in turbulent times and rooted in unity, Mango Groove’s music has always been a soundtrack to our country’s journey: from moments of change and conflict to times of reconciliation and celebration.

2025 Celebrations – The Year of the Mango

The Walter Sisulu concert forms part of a year-long celebration of Mango Groove’s incredible legacy, with multiple exciting projects on the horizon:

  • The Mango Groove Birthday Wall – A fan memory wall open via their website and Facebook for sharing photos, messages, and stories.
  • New 2025 Merchandise Range – Featuring commemorative and collector’s items including signed vinyl, personal artefacts, and never-before-seen content.
  • Remixes & Collaborations – Look out for all-new remixes and modern takes on Mango Groove classics.
  • Limited-Edition Vinyl Releases – Including the reissue of the debut ‘Mango Groove’ album on orange vinyl and more to follow, with rare early recordings.

Coming Soon From Stage to Screen

Mango Groove is also developing several high-profile creative ventures, including:

  • ‘Special Stars’ – A feature-length documentary film telling the full Mango Groove story.
  • ‘The Groove’ – A 13-part docu-drama series about the band’s early days.
  • ‘Gladlands’ – A major new stage musical co-created with legendary playwright Paul Slabolepszy, featuring new Mango songs alongside iconic hits.

We still can’t quite believe it’s been 40 years. This is a celebration of Mango Groove, yes, but more than that. It’s a celebration of South Africa, its people, and the journey we’re all still on together.” ~ Claire Johnston
