South African’s first to receive three different gradings in one building
Official renaming for Time Square Hotel in Pretoria – With immediate effect, The Maslow Time Square has been officially renamed Time Square Hotel, in a strategic move to enhance brand identity, and manage guest perceptions.
“While our name is changing, guests can be assured our ownership, management, and commitment to delivering exceptional service remain the same,” says Ruben Gooranah, Time Square’s General Manager.
All existing contracts, reservations, and negotiated rates will remain valid and unaffected by this change. Only the hotel’s branding and communications will be updated to reflect the new name.
Multi-tier room grading remains unchanged
What also won’t be changing is the hotel’s unique multi-tier room grading, a first in South Africa. Time Square Hotel offers three-star, four-star and five-star graded rooms under one roof, providing guests with options to suit different budgets and preferences, as recognised by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA).

Three different gradings under one roof
Contemporary styling, comfort and a warm welcome come standard with all 238 rooms, including the 10 suites. The difference in the grading lies in each room’s size, design and decorative finishes.
“The innovative concept allows travellers to tailor their accommodation to suit their needs and budget,” says Time Square Rooms Division Manager Lesego Kitsa.
The three-star Foundation rooms are 24m². Furnished with either two singles or a queen-sized bed, work desk and bathroom with shower. The four-star 27m2 Median rooms offer either two single beds or a king-sized bed, work desk, coffee machine, and bathroom with shower. The luxurious five-star Zenith Level rooms are a spacious 36m². They have two singles or king-sized beds, desk and coffee machine, and separate bath and shower.
“The queen Foundation rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. Breakfast is included and fairly standard, with a decent selection,” says guest Tasneem Patel on Google Reviews.
“While our hotel caters to every accommodation need, guests who reside in the Zenith Level also get to enjoy a premium breakfast buffet. This, in our 12th floor Luminary Lounge with its scenic views of the city. They can also witness breathtaking sunsets from the Solis bar. It also has its own splash pool,” says Kitsa.
360 degree view from the gym
The gym, available to residents, has breathtaking 360 degrees views of Menlyn and Pretoria while you get your sweat on.
“The hotel’s location is ideal. Within walking distance to Central Square Shopping Centre and Menlyn Mall, with a wide variety of restaurants nearby. The gym is well equipped and accessible 24 hours a day, making it a great convenience,” says Patel.
The hotel operates on dynamic pricing. This starts with bed and breakfast for entry level three-star graded rooms. These rooms will suit someone making a quick trip. Four-star graded rooms offer a bit more comfort for guests. They would suit families wanting to stay a bit longer so that they can tour the city.
“Despite the variable room rating, we are proud of the service standard throughout the hotel. The experience in reception, restaurants and other facilities, are five-star,” says Kitsa.
