Meet Edo, Uncle Joe and Michelle:
EDÓ Mostert is a professional wedding photographer and SA’s first fuller figure model from Cape Town. “It’s hard to describe the impact that the show has had on me and the community which I represent. Every aspect of the show gave me more respect for the music industry and the team behind the scenes. The song and music video is something that I have not seen in South Africa and I hope this paves the way in the mainstream music industry for more voices from the LGBTQ+ community. Let’s all be a queen B bitch of our own reality and werkit boetie, werkit!”
Michelle Mountjoy was born in America but grew up in Plettenberg Bay where music has always been a big part of her life. “This experience has been amazing!” says Michelle.
“It has really pushed me out of my shell and gave me the confidence that I will hold onto forever. Over the past 11 weeks I was formed into a better version of myself. I cried, but I also laughed a lot. This journey helped me to heal and to know that whenever times are tough, I need to sing through it. My music video represents my journey of what my life was like and where i am today. I want to share it with the world and pray that it will give others hope. It’s been an honour to be part of this journey with incredible people. This is just the beginning.”
Watch Michelle’s Sing jou lied, which also includes Minki van der Westhuizen among some famous South African personalities.
Joseph Mitchell is a retired civil servant and the oldest contestant on the show. His hobbies include drama, writing poetry and gardening. According to Joseph it is never too late to try new things. His mentor on the show, Early B, also makes an appearance in his music video about a father that does not approve of his daughters’ boyfriend.
“Drama has always been a great passion and I never thought I would make a music video at the age of 61. My dreams were slowly fading, and I thought I would never have an opportunity for a breakthrough until this opportunity came over my path. It has been the most incredible experience and I have really enjoyed myself. I could just be myself with every day on the show being an absolute pleasure.” Says Joseph To aspiring musicians he says: “Cast your net on the other side. This is from the Bible where Jesus taught his disciples to look for opportunities”
