New study reveals most and least widely touring musicians

The data reveals that Coldplay is the easiest artist to see live and Bad Bunny has only 28% of shows in non-capital cities

New study reveals most and least widely touring musicians

A new study from Premier Inn reveals which artists are the easiest and hardest to see on their current and upcoming tours, based on the locations visited.

The research comes after recent tour announcements highlight a potential divide between artists touring globally across regional cities, and those hosting residencies solely in capital cities.

Premier Inn Findings

The findings reveal that Coldplay tops the rankings as the easiest artist to see live, thanks to their expansive 225-date global run spanning five continents.

On the other hand, Bon Jovi is the hardest artist to see live with their upcoming ‘Forever’ tour, with only 14 shows on the cards – 9 of which are held in NYC alone.

From Harry Styles’ 30-night New York City residency in Madison Square Garden, to Ariana Grande’s 10-night stint at London’s O2 Arena, it’s clear that blockbuster tours are getting bigger. But does that mean they are also getting broader?

New analysis from Premier Inn shows that might not be the case, by revealing which artists are the easiest, and hardest, to see live, ranking major world tours based on how widely they travel and how many dates fall outside capital cities.

It comes after a new report1 found that 175 UK towns and cities no longer receive regular touring shows from professional artists. This leaves an estimated 25 million people in the dark with gigs and concerts.

While concerts were once a simple night out, in many cases they may now be the reason for a weekend trip or a holiday abroad, creating additional costs for fans on top of ticket prices. In fact, previous research2 has found that hotel bookings can rise by 40-80% during concert weekends, so it’s clear that many fans are travelling far and wide to see their favourite artists.

Major world tours

As such, the study from the hotel chain analyses major world tours which are running throughout 2026 or have concluded in 2025. The ranking was then created, ordering artists based on a scoring system factoring in the number of countries visited, number of cities, proportion of non-capital dates, total tour dates, and continental spread.

Coldplay

The data reveals that Coldplay is the easiest artist to see live thanks to their Music of the Spheres tour, with a total score of 77.8/100. Running from 2022 to 2025, the tour spanned 42 countries and 80 cities, with a huge 225 dates – with 125 of those taking place outside of capital cities (58%).

Their Music of the Spheres tour has been particularly notable, not only for its immensely global scale, but also for its sustainability efforts, as the band pledged to cut touring emissions by 50% compared to previous tours, incorporating kinetic dance floors, renewable energy solutions, and tree-planting initiatives.

While the tour paused on the 12th of September 2025 at Wembley Stadium in London, the band are expected to return to touring in 2027, with reports suggesting 138 further shows are on the way for fans wanting the live experience3.

Travis Scott

In second place is Travis Scott, a Houston-born rapper with his Circus Maximus Tour which ran from 2023 to 2025. With 93 dates in 28 countries, and 73 cities, the tour achieves an overall score of 75.5/100, with 83% of shows in non-capital cities.

Doja Cat

And in third place with the Tour Ma Vie World Tour is Doja Cat, with a total score of 71.8/100. With the array of international dates spread across six continents, one of the widest geographical reaches in the study, Doja Cat’s tour will host 79% of shows in non-capital cities.

Yungblud

Yungblud places in fourth, achieving a total score of 70.3/100. The IDOLS tour will be held across 21 countries, including Australia, the UK, Canada, the US, and across Europe, with 89 total shows on the roster. 78 cities will have the chance to catch Yungblud live, with 80% of these shows in non-capital cities.

Metallica

And in fifth place is Metallica, with their M72 World Tour (score of 70/100). Metallica’s current tour, which has been running since 2023, has 99 dates in total, with 84% of those shows in non-capital cities.

Overall, their geographical reach spreads across 4 continents, 28 countries, and 63 cities, allowing fans many chances to see them live throughout their 45-year reign of the rock world.

Which artists are the hardest to see on tour?

While it’s clear that many artists are making their tours as widely accessible as possible for their fans across the globe, however, the data also reveals that several major artists are concentrating the majority of their shows in a small number of major cities. In addition, some artists have fewer tour dates overall, which consequently limits geographic access for fans who may have to travel to attend a show.

Bon Jovi

In last place overall is Bon Jovi, achieving a total score of 29.0/100 with the Forever Tour happening this year (2026). With the tour reaching 4 countries and 4 cities overall, it features only 14 dates, 9 of which are held at Madison Square Garden in NYC, and a further 3 at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Over four decades, the band has sold over 100 million records worldwide and built a reputation for large-scale arena tours. However, the 2026 Forever Tour focuses heavily on residency-style performances in major cities, rather than widespread geographical reach which may limit some fans. However, over half (64%) of shows are in non-capital cities.

Beyoncé

Placing just above Bon Jovi is Beyoncé, with a total score of 31.8/100 for her Cowboy Carter tour. With 31 dates in total across 2 continents, 3 countries, and 7 cities, the tour had a non-capital city proportion of 71%.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande also ranks in the bottom three overall, with the Eternal Sunshine tour achieving a total score of 33.7/100. Hosting 41 dates in total across 3 countries, the singer will be visiting 11 cities, most notably London where she will have a 10-night residency at The O2, and NYC with 5 nights at The Barclays Center.

Her Eternal Sunshine announcement marks a highly anticipated return to touring after focusing on acting, but the current limited-country schedule and extended residencies in London and New York suggest a more concentrated approach for her future tour, despite 76% of shows planned in non-capital cities.

Harry Styles

In fourth place is Harry Styles, with an overall score of 35.2/100. The former One Direction member only recently announced his Together, Together tour for 2026, featuring 67 dates in 7 major cities (so far).

While it may seem like a positive jump in available dates, however, the recent tour announcement has also caused some controversy — particularly around high ticket prices and limited US locations. For instance, as New York City is the only US stop so far, this situation has created huge demand. As a result, many fans are unable to afford to see him after factoring in travel and accommodation costs, in addition to the already costly ticket fares.

In contrast, his previous Love On Tour array of shows spanned multiple continents, with 169 dates in total. At the time, the tour finished as the fifth-highest grossing and eighth-most attended tour ever.

Bad Bunny

Finally, in fifth place is Bad Bunny, with his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour achieving a score of 35.7/100. With 57 available dates spanning 3 continents, 20 countries, and 22 cities, the latest Super Bowl Half Time Show performer has only 28% of shows in non-capital cities.

Premier Inn Says…

A Premier Inn spokesperson said: “Our new research shows that tour location matters just as much as tour scale, as while some artists are bringing live music to multiple cities across multiple continents, others are focusing on only capital or major city residencies.”

But while residencies can create a special, intimate experience for fans, they can also limit access for international audiences who must travel a significant distance to attend, creating a widening ‘gig gap’ for fans.”

And with gig tourism on the rise, we’re seeing more fans than ever turn concerts into overnight trips or full holidays, whether that’s heading into the capital for a multi-night residency or travelling outside of their home country to see their favourite artist.

Methodology

Premier Inn analysed publicly available tour information for each artist. Specifically, the data was gathered from official tour listings and reputable sources, including Songkick, Wikipedia tour pages, and official artist websites. From this information, the team recorded key metrics such as the total number of shows, the number of countries and cities visited, and the number of continents covered. Thereafter, to create an overall ranking, each artist was assigned a total score. Ultimately, this score was designed to reflect how easy it is for fans from across the globe to see them perform live.
