A Pan African-Global collaboration goes ‘Boom Boom’

King of Dancehall' Beenie Man joins on debut Amapiano single 'Boom Boom' with Jokwiz Klean and UPZ

A Pan African-Global collaboration goes ‘Boom Boom’ – Self proclaimed ‘King of Dancehall’, Beenie Man, jumps on his first Amapiano single, ‘Boom Boom.’ (Amapiano Mix) The track was produced by South Africa’s UPZ with rising Uganda’s artist Jokwiz Klean on co-lead vocals.

Beenie Man, born in Kingston, Jamaica, is a legendary dancehall and reggae artist with a career spanning several decades. From his early beginnings as a young kid in the 1980s to his rise to international fame in the 1990s, Beenie Man has been a prominent figure in the music industry, leaving an indelible mark on the Jamaican and global music scenes having also collaborated with the likes of Wyclef Jean and Janet Jackson.

How ‘Boom Boom’ came about

‘Boom Boom’s origins traces back to Uganda where Jokwiz was working on his debut single and Beenie Man was in Kampala City for a series of shows. Beenie loved the song and laced his vocals; a signature and catchy chorus hook and a verse.

South African based House music producer UPZ was working on Amapiano & Afrofusion productions at the time and after hearing the track, decided to marry the vocals with his own production and voila, a Pan African-Global collaboration was born.

The single takes one on a musical journey with the two dancehall artists exchanging verses in their respective mother tongues (Patois, English, Rugika, Luganda) while the track builds up with multiple hooks peaking in a saxophone solo that leads into the final coda.

Jokwiz comments on ‘Boom Boom’

I had the incredible opportunity to spend time with the Doctor (Beenie Man) and members of the RUFFKUTT band, living a dream. On his final day in Uganda, I played him some of my tracks, as suggested by Benji RuffKutt. The moment the song started, he immediately began to freestyle over the song. And everyone loving the flow. He naturally blessed me. And just like that, BOOM BOOM was born.’

UPZ Comments on ‘Boom Boom’

It was a real honor for me to collaborate on Beenie Man’s first amapiano production. I really loved Jokwiz’s vocals as well. Such a great marriage of these two artists. I really dig the sax solo and key changes which adds an unexpected twist to the groove”
