Aidan Martin releases a new single featuring multi-instrumentalist, Guy Buttery, drummer Graham Ward & bassist Wouter Reyneke

'Just like water' is a soulful taste of things to come

Still Waters Run Deep …

Singer-songwriter, Aidan Martin, has released a new single last week, featuring multi-instrumentalist, Guy Buttery, drummer and producer, Graham Ward, and bassist, Wouter Reyneke.

Just Like Water is a stylish and deceptively simple soundscape, at once pared back and replete.

Recorded without a click track, the song has an expansive, unrestrained feel, clearly delineated by a strong lyric narrative. This is the first song from Martin’s forthcoming album, due to be released this year.

He says: ‘With Just Like Water, I was going for a natural feel. What I love about it is that each performer stands out in their own right. I think we complement each other well while giving the piece enough space to breathe, which gives it a sense of movement I think. It’s really a kind of journey.

I was lucky to get Guy Buttery involved. He was working on another album and so could only record in his downtime. But I’m so grateful he did because his involvement, as well as Graham’s and Wouter’s, of course, have really made the track what it is.’

A refined and accomplished guitarist, Martin has released two full-length albums – Inside Out and Refugee – and worked with some extraordinary, world-renowned performers across Africa and in Europe.

With echoes of John Martyn and early Zeppelin, Just Like Water is an appetising taste of things to come from this artist.
