Hailing from Lenasia, born Genesis Gabriella Tina Manney, Gigi Lamayne is certainly the lady of the hour. Making headlines of late with her upcoming album, her ambition to star in Marvel’s Black Panther movie, attending a “national” date with Mr Smeg (influencer Michael Bucwa) to being selected to be part of Rihanna’s beauty range Family with the Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skincare roll out to Africa, it is evident that Gigi is destined for greater things, and nothing can stand in her way!
The award-winning rapper/influencer is set to release her 7th studio album ‘Set in Stone’ on the 20th of May via Hart Roc Entertainment and gave her excited fans teasers of what to expect by dropping another two singles from the album. Gigi feels that her 7th album is the one she feels most proud of as the number 7 represents completeness or fullness, and that is how Gigi feels about this project.
The album consists of 10 tracks with three singles released thus far. The first single released on the 18th March titled ‘Mashonisa’ features Busiswa and Makhadzi followed by two more drops on the 12th May, that being ‘Empini’ which features Big Zulu & Anzo as well as ‘Wer U R’, featuring Vugar M Beats.
The rappers upcoming ‘Set in Stone’ album features well-known names such as Big Zulu, MusiholiQ, and Phantom Steeze to mention a few and we anticipate nothing but rave reviews from her latest work.
Gigi revealed late last year that the SA Hip-hop scene had been draining her and hindering her spiritual journey, leaving her feeling out of control in her environment. She also expressed that though she will continue to rap, she will not be on hip-hop songs as much due to the control and toxicity prevalent in the genre, so this album is surely a blessing of note to her adoring fans!
