Ijay Swanepoel AKA Stephen Gawking had this to say of the new release: “As you can tell, the title is a wordplay on ‘imperfections’ and ‘I’m perfection’.
The initial inspiration was derived from a friend’s photography project, focusing on body positivity. I then thought, let’s take it a step further, and make it more than just about one theme, but rather, an all-encompassing identity positivity song. Because, at the end of the day, ‘all that matters is that you stay true to being you, each and every day, from dusk till dawn, with everything you do’, which I feature in the lyrics”.
“This project is my brainchild – a symbol of hope and inspiration to those who are: disabled, different, oppressed, bullied, and everyone in-between.“
About Ijay Swanepoel
Stephen Gawking The Nuclear Lyricist is the Brainchild of Ijay Swanepoel. Discovering that he didn’t just have a passion for wordplay and lyricism, but also a dormant talent as a lyricist.
Adding a spin of his own, and being disabled by a disorder called Spinal Muscular Atrophy he laid this foundation for the persona that is – Stephen Gawking, The Nuclear Lyricist.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a group of neuromuscular disorders that result in the loss of motor neurons and progressive muscle wasting. The severity of symptoms and age of onset varies by the type. Ijay however, refuses to let this keep him down and continues to inspire with his determination and the uplifting message he conveys in his music.
