The Lebowski drop TWO new singles, ‘Sad Boy Punch Up’ & ‘Heavy Glow’
The Lebowski boys are back this February with two brand spanking new tracks, Sad Boy Punch Up & Heavy Glow, the first in a series of singles planned for 2020.
With trigger warnings for brandy drinking and street fighting, your favourite post punk lads are at it again!
Voted ‘Best Newcomer’ by the Pretoria East Rugby Moms Club in 2017, the trio set out to not disappoint fans with their new release. Jam packed with songs that are shorter, faster and cooler than their last EP, Super Low Nowhere, released in 2019.
“There’s something genuinely rock ‘n’ roll about The Lebowski’s approach. They channel a sort of brawny, youthful arrogance, juxtaposed against healthy,tightly-wound riffage.” Texx and the City review 2019.
The Lebowski is a three piece Indie-Rock band from the eastern suburbs of South Africa’s capital city consisting of Llewellyn Steyn (vocals, guitar), Dylan Pietersen (drums) and Jaco Naudé (bass).
The band was formed towards the end of 2016 with the release of three demo tracks recorded with Nic Dinnie from Desmond and the Tutus at Pop Filter studios. Since then the band has gone on to release two EPs, ‘Pretty Bland’ and ‘Super Low Nowhere’, as well as the single ‘Daddy’s Girl’, working with producer/engineer Jaco Naudé who later joined the band full time on bass.
On the live side, the band has shared stages with South Africa’s indie royalty – opening for acts like Shortstraw, Desmond and the Tutus, Van Pletzen, The Black Cat Bones, Wolfgang Marrow and The Plastics. The band has also performed at some of the most iconic festivals around the country including Mieliepop (2017), Lush (2018), Misty Waters (2019) and Park Acoustics (2019).
The Lebowski loves to be part of the local Pretoria and Johannesburg music scene and can regularly be seen performing or hanging out at events and venues like Uncle Mothers, Bunk, Aandklas, Railways and Rumours and takes pride in fitting into the larger music scene in South Africa, both as a band and as fans.
The band has had five tracks playlisted on local radio in Pretoria (Tuks FM), as well as MFM and Mix 98.3 FM. Currently the band is scheduled to release a string of singles over the course of the first 6 months of 2020, with the first two ‘Sad Boy Punch up // Heavy Glow’ which dropped on the 7th of February.
