By: Summer -Raine Thesner

Chaos Doctine Triple Track review – I’m way out of my comfort zone when it comes to hard hitting thrash metal, but the Trio of New Releases from Chaos Doctrine stands as testament to their Evolving Sound and Timeless Craft. This certainly makes them deserving of an attempt to do them justice.

Chaos Doctrine has delivered a powerful trio of new releases that boldly showcase their ability to blend heavy riffs with daring experimental elements. These tracks not only pay tribute to metal legends but also expand on the band’s own evolving story. The releases come ahead of their highly anticipated EP release, ‘The Chaos Chronicles Volume II.’ This EP will feature alternative versions of tracks spanning their entire discography, ensuring that Chaos Doctrine continues to remain a vital force in SA metal circles. Here’s a look at each of the three recent releases.

The SA-bbath Doctrine Chapter III: SA Tribute Mix

In The SA-bbath Doctrine Chapter III, Chaos Doctrine makes a bold statement, paying tribute to the iconic Black Sabbath as they prepare for their final concert on July 5th, 2025. The track is more than just a mix. It’s a heartfelt recognition to a band that has shaped the very sound of metal.

Featuring a stellar lineup of South African metal vocalists, including Carlos Sanches (Deadline), Jamie Hendry (Jasper Dan), Laura Cayzer (Capgras Delusion), Bronwyn Bing (ex Apocalypse Later), Charl du Plessis (Nerve Zero, Sacrifist), Buchanan Marais (Nachtegal), Aiden Morris and Jaz de Wet (State Dependency), Ryno Theron, Renz Kruger (Truth Decayed) and Dr. D.

The track beautifully captures the essence of Black Sabbath’s early influence injected with a unique local flavor. The familiar doom-laden atmosphere of Sabbath is present, but Chaos Doctrine gives it a fresh twist. Intertwining their thrash elements with the slow, heavy grooves that defined Sabbath’s pioneering work.

The performances brought in by the South African vocalists is particularly striking. Each one adding a distinct layer of intensity and passion that feels awed and original. It’s a fitting tribute to a legendary band while strengthening Chaos Doctrine’s own place in the metal hierarchy.

‘The Rite (Devil Divas and Harps Remix)’

With “The Rite (Devil Divas and Harps Remix),” Chaos Doctrine take a bold step into new territory. The remix, which features the talents of Bronwyn Bing and Craig MacKinnon, introduces a bluesy, harmonica-driven edge to the band’s traditionally thrash-centric sound. The harmonica virtuosity on display is mesmerizing. It adds a layer of emotion and a touch of southern soul to the otherwise intense metal sound.

Bronwyn Bing’s evocative vocal delivery complements Craig MacKinnon’s blues-infused offering to the remix. Combined they bring a haunting and atmospheric take on the original track. This remix shows Chaos Doctrine’s versatility. Demonstrating their ability to expand their sound while maintaining the integrity of their original vision. It’s a perfect example of how a remix can not only reinvent a song but also highlight the band’s willingness to experiment and grow without losing the core of their identity.

‘The Rite Verse II’

The final release, The Rite Verse II, is an exciting new addition to Chaos Doctrine’s catalog. It continues the thematic journey from their previous track, ‘The Rite,’ with Dr D taking phrases from the original song and mixing them up with new lyrics The song is a natural evolution of the original, expanding on its dark and intricate narrative.

The track features the band’s signature thrash elements. Aggressive riffs, pummeling drums, and impassioned ‘scream’ vocals while also integrating new layers of complexity. The songwriting is tighter, pushing the band into more progressive territory without sacrificing their thrash roots.

It’s a thrilling addition to the band’s expanding discography, showing that they are not content to get comfortable in their sound. ‘The Rite Verse II’  flaunts the band’s ability to evolve while still staying true to the sound that initially made them stand out in the metal scene.

Looking Ahead -The Chaos Chronicles Volume II

This triple release definitely gives fans a glimpse of what’s to come with The Chaos Chronicles Volume II.

Each track in this latest trio demonstrates Chaos Doctrine’s ability to stay relevant! Constantly innovating while honoring the essence of their sound. Through tributes to metal legends, reimagining their own work, or crafting fresh music, the band proves that their journey is far from over.

Chaos Doctrine’s ability to push boundaries while staying true to their roots is a testament to their enduring relevance in the heavy metal world. With The Chaos Chronicles Volume II on the horizon, fans can look forward to even more reworkings of old favorites alongside new and exciting material.

For a band that has been able to evolve without compromising their identity, the new EP will reinforce their position as one of South Africa’s finest metal bands.
