Review of ‘Moving On’ from Gaz

By Summer-Raine Thesner

Review of ‘Moving On’ from Gaz – UK Born GAZ has just released his latest single. The song is titled “Moving on,” and that’s exactly what it is about. We get to see another side of Gaz with “Moving On” and I find this incredibly brave and incredibly beautiful.

This one comes from a real place. It’s not a song from an artist for the sake of new material. This is a man going through something heavy, something life-changing. Written during his separation from his wife of nearly 26 years, you can, quite clearly, feel the weight of that history. It’s in every part of the track. It lingers throughout, adding even more depth to the emotion.

The end of a long-term marriage entails a similar, deep grieving process as a death. In death, we can find some kind of closure with a funeral or memorial. Comfort in the people mourning with us. It’s not the same with divorce. We have to find our own way out of the dark night. We have to grieve in our own way however long it takes, and we have to do this alone. It’s honestly a long and lonely painful walk. Like trying to adjust to a new life minus a limb.

What I love the most about ‘Moving On’…there’s no anger, no blame. You hear reflection more than reaction, and that shows an admirable kind of strength.

The way the song unfolds is natural, and heartfelt. It’s about coming to terms with what’s happened, seeing things clearly, and figuring out how to keep going forward. I think that’s why it hits the way it does. It processes that space between what was and what’s next, and that space feels very real. Mentioning his Son, well that hits the heartstrings. The truth is, looking at our children when we are struggling gives us a new found strength to put another step forward. We do it for them while we do it for ourselves.

I’ve got a lot of respect for GAZ for putting something like this out. It’s not easy to be this open, especially about something so personal. Yet, he does it with a kind of calmness that makes you feel like he’s not just sharing pain, but rather working through it, step by step.

“Moving On” is, in many ways, a shared moment in time. By the end of it, you’re not just listening. Rather, you begin to understand where he’s at. You honestly can’t help but feel for the journey he’s on. As someone who has also walked this path, having spent 16 years of my life with someone and gone through a divorce, I too, know all too well where he is at.

Strength and love GAZ…
