Louise Carver finds freedom during lockdown with her brand new single and music video for ‘Swim in the Ocean’

Louise Carver, arguably SA’s best known and most loved female singer-songwriter, releases her first brand new single in over a year with ‘Swim In The Ocean’ – out now through Gallo Record Company.

Carver returns with a single that celebrates her much-loved sound with a soothing vocal delivery that ebbs-and-flows like water in between her beautiful piano sounds in ‘Swim in the Ocean.

She delves into the inspiration behind the single, saying “’Swim in the Ocean‘ is about what lockdown helped us to remember about ourselves. What we really need, what makes us truly happy and how you can ache for a simple human interaction like hugging your mom or popping in to see a friend. It’s also about survival, as so many of us suffered terribly due to our industries being shut down. The ocean represents freedom and swimming in it, the best medicine for our souls.”

The release of ‘Swim in the Ocean’ sees the Nottingham remix released with it, giving fans two incredible versions of the single to add to their playlist for any mood the Summer holidays may hold – laid-back or energetic. Carver delves into the making of the remix, explaining “I have such strong roots in dance and I wanted to give people the option to dance and celebrate life if they wanted to. The words are full of desire for space and freedom and the remix inspires you to move.

The original puts you into a beautiful soulful space, I imagine people sitting around a fire drinking red wine and exhaling together. Greg was an obvious choice for me to do the remix, as he is so musical himself and gets things moving without detracting from the melody and lyrics. We worked really well together”.

Carver’s dance roots have also seen her awarded with two #1 records on the BILLBOARD Dance/Club Play Chart collaborating with US DJ Joe Bermudez on singles ‘Sunrise’ (2016) and ‘Crazy Enough’ (2018).

Carver once again teams up with music video director Matthew Marinus and releases the video for the Nottingham Remix of ‘Swim in the Ocean’. Having collaborated on five videos together so far, Carver shared the idea with Marinus that the song was written about lockdown so they needed to film it at her house.

“At the last minute we decided to use the remix but the concept stayed the same,” Carver recalls of the video shoot. “I created four very different looks and feels around the house which are symbolic of life, movement and rebirth. I have a beautiful boma fireplace, which we lit to create a roaring blaze, and I was in water for large parts of the shoot.”

With the release of a new single and music video, Carver steps into the festive season with an incredible release in ‘Swim in the Ocean’ and a great song for those heading to the coast this December. Fans who will be in the Western Cape will be able to see Louise Carver live just ahead of Xmas.

“With so much uncertainty around big live music events, I have been hesitant to plan a festive show season, but I will be performing on the 23rd of December in Stellenbosch at Summerhill Farm’s Orgasmic Music Gallery. All info on my website, https://louisecarver.com/
