Out today – ROAK opens at a heart-racing pace, unspooling layers of instrumentation that run through the song in expanding cycles until coming together in a hopeful union.
“RAOK was written about the feeling of being in a constant spiral; about not being able to shake a bad feeling,” says the band. “But, at its heart, it is about the impact that someone showing any form of kindness towards you has – and the immediate sense of belonging that even a random act of this nature instils.
In highly cinematic textures, RAOK depicts a pattern of thinking that we are all familiar with: fixating on every possible angle of a problem that we are facing, until it is the only thing we can think about.
But then, just over three-and-a-half minutes into the song, the mood changes and the band’s instruments explode in unison, creating something uplifting and deeply transformative. “RAOK” is the second single from the Cape Town-based band, following the release of “Designasaurs” in September 2020.
Building on their debut album, Velvet Youth (2019), both singles reinforce Yndian Mynah’s growing reputation as one of South Africa’s most exciting post-rock outfits whose expansive, experimental, and evocative songs are bound by neither language nor genre.
The single is paired with a graphical music video premiering at 19h00 on respected Post Rock YouTube Channel Where Post Rock Dwells (115k).
Yndian Mynah will be playing selected dates in December including a DJ set on December 3 (Hell’s Kitchen in Johannesburg) and live shows on December 4th (Second Hand Hands, The Irish Club in Linden, Johannesburg), December 5th (So Punk in Soweto) and December 6th (Park Acoustics in Pretoria).
