The debut album from seventeen year old social media mogul and singer, Billie Eilish has just landed the young star critical acclaim. Released this 29th March 2019 ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ hit number #1 position in record time in the US & UK. At the fresh age of seventeen, Billie has already picked up traction from the likes of Elton John. With numerous accolades behind her name, performing at Coachella and billions of views on YouTube, this young non-conformist is making waves in the industry with co-creator and brother, Finneas O’Connell. ‘When We All Fall Asleep’ is nothing short of brilliant. The album was released by Darkroom and Interscope Records.
From the intro of the upbeat tongue in cheek “Bad guy” making waves on international charts, the album stuns with dark and brooding hits like “Bury a friend”. As for Eilish’s vocal abilities, “I love you” clearly boasts her range, the song strangely reminiscent of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with a twist! (or is that ‘twisted’?) Perhaps this could be one of the tracks to look out for in the album. A real treat.
“Ilomilo” and “my strange addiction” are Billies beautiful lyrical expressions of lunacy. Another slower paced and controversial track is “Wish you were gay” . A catchy lament about one sided love.
The most emotive and moving track on Billies debut has to be the subtly morbid “Listen before I go”, a sublime song about leaving this world behind (perhaps by choice).
“You should see me in a crown” inspired by a villain in the TV series Sherlock soundtrack is definitely for days when you’re looking for some empowerment and feeling a little cheeky!
“When the party is over” is simplistic yet haunting. A mix of intermittent breaks and sporadic lyrics, combined with the magic of the piano make this song golden.
Overall, Billie Eilish has re-introduced originality crossing genre barriers with a magnificent debut album and we definitely recommend you check this one out!
