SA Music News Magazine had a chat with Ryno for this exclusive closer look at the man behind the beautiful music.

Age: 36

Height: 1.71 m

Favourite Band: Led Zeppelin, because it’s Led Zeppelin!

Favourite Album: Dust and Disquiet by Caspian. Just a memorable album of beautiful instrumental arrangements, packed with feeling

Favourite Genre: It’s a tough one, but probably Ambient / Post Rock

Favourite Book: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

First record you ever purchased: Flick of The Switch by AC/DC

Last record you purchased: Finding the Cracks by Frequency Collisions

Favourite Instrument: Guitar. I’m a multi-instrumentalist, but I find the guitar to be the most expressive for me personally

Favourite live show you played: Tsakane in Gauteng, South Africa. The 2nd time I played there was very memorable, and I even have a song named after the community that has supported me there

Favourite Hobbies or Pastime: Art (painting and drawing). Also reading, collecting comic books and many more …

Favourite Movie: Almost Famous and pretty much anything else by Cameron Crowe. His films run deep into being human and can make anyone reassess the direction of their life

Favourite Quote: “Fear is the relinquishment of logic, the willing relinquishing of reasonable patterns. We yield to it or we fight it, but we cannot meet it halfway,” Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House

Favourite Place in the World: Too many to think of, but Clarens is up there on the list

Most Admired Musician: Jimi Hendrix! He completely changed music, especially involving our approach to guitar playing. He broke the mould and much great music has followed as a result

Favourite Ryno Theron: I.N.S. because it is made up of very old pieces of music by me, which took some time to develop to what it is now. I love the groove and feel of it, and the double handed tapping technique within the song is fun to play, and watch
