The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) salute King Don Father – Mandla Spikiri

The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMA) are delighted at the outcome of the 25th edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMA’s).

MKHMA management were in attendance at the Red Carpet event and would like to congratulate our 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng on reclaiming the pride of Kwaito. Despite having all odds stacked against him, the King Don Father walked away with The Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano award at the SAMA’s.  Although certain parts of our 3rd annual award show were noticeable at SAMA 25, MKHMA would like to commend the organisers of the South African Music Awards on their attempt of doing what MKHMA has previously done and will be doing for a long time to come.

MKHMA management looked elegant in their signature glamour attire that was completed with All Stars, the standard dress code for amapantsula and Kwaito lovers. MKHMA Founder and CEO, Mrs Perfecta Khumalo-Malinga accompanied Spikiri and his entourage to collect his SAMA on stage. “I am glad that Spiriki won.” Says the CEO. Perfecta, who had on a glamorous pink dress, went on to mention “I am not the only one who’s excited about this but all Kwaito fans are delighted. Although there is the myth that kwaito is dead, SAMAs opening proved that it’s not dead. I have noticed the excitement from fans when Mapaputsi, Thebe, TKZEE and Trompies opened the event. We have to stop saying Kwaito is dead, because it is not.”
