Black Harbour ain’t that Blue after anchoring success with 2020’s ‘Cold Winter Blues’ EP, a Tour to Italy & Debut Album Release on the Horizon

Black Harbour is a Johannesburg based blues / rock band with moxie – originally consisting of singer/guitarist Ross Harding, bassist Kevin Hughes and drummer, Wayne Van Tonder.

The band formed four years ago in 2017. The following year Wayne immigrated to the UK  – enter Drummer Matthew Rennie &  Bassist Charles Richard Greer now performing in the current line-up of this quintessential quartet that is Black Harbour. A perfect marriage of 90’s rock, blues and grunge overtones resulting in a rich, intense sound, best described as ‘Dark Blues’.

Dark, heartfelt, and moody Black Harbour’s sonics are deeply influenced by the music of Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, and other classic blues artists. “

No strangers to our local stages in South Africa, Black Harbour have performed at Radium Beer Hall, Sin Tax Bar, Baileys, Hard Rock Cafe, Barnyard Theatre, Smoking Kills Bar, Lagom Cafe, White Mountain festival and many more, as well as an acoustic tour to Italy which took place last year.

Black Harbour has released two EP’s to date as well as a “bootleg” EP titled ‘Black Harbour’  which is only available on Soundcloud / free streaming.

The ‘Blood Moon’ EP was the band’s first professional release in 2019.

Their follow up EP, ‘Cold Winter Blues‘, was released in 2020 and featured an epic 9 minute blues rock original.

Smokestack Lightning” (also “Smokestack Lightnin'”) is a blues song recorded by Howlin’ Wolf in 1956. It became one of his most popular and influential songs. Based on earlier blues songs, and numerous artists later interpreted it.”

2021 for Black Harbour:

Black Harbour’s highly anticipated debut album is scheduled for early 2021. The band will also return to Italy this year for a European tour in August/September 2021.

Upcoming Event: 

Ross will be performing a special solo show with some original music – music from his band Black Harbour, as well as some of his deepest influences including Soundgarden, BB King, Robert Johnson and more. Expect an intimate night of dark blues acoustic music with a magical atmosphere that can only be found in the Radium Beer Hall
